Saraswati Stuti

Saraswati Stuti

Saraswati is considered godess of Knowledge, Intelligence, Oration and Art.
She is daughter of Brahma and a virgin.
Students (Vidyarthi - People desirous of aquiring knowledge) worship her to help them in their quest.

Ya kundendutusharhardhawala ya shubhravastra vruta
ya veena varadandamanditkara ya shwetpadmasana |
Ya brahmachyutshankara prabhutibhi daive sada vandita
sa ma patu saraswati bhagawati nishesh jadya paha ||

Translation:
The godess who is as fair as the flower of kund (?), like moon and like a necklace of dew and wears bright white clothes.
Who holds a *veena, and is seated on a white lotus.
To whom gods like Brahma, Vishnu and Shankar always bow,
and who dispells all darkness from the mind without a trace,
such godess Saraswati, please protect me.

*Veena - a 8-stringed ancient Indian music instrument.

Nice post.

Kunda is jasmine flower. (VS Apte's Sanskrit English Dictionary says "a kind of jasmine - white and delicate".

Just thought you may like to add this information in your post, when i saw the question mark.

Any shloka from Gita is not mystic. They are part of a teaching that took place in between Krishna and Arjuna. Teaching means communication. They can be understood, known.

As Bhagavan is teaching, there is a context in which arjuna is asking a question and as the answer Bhagavan is answering him.

By the word कल्याणकृत्, Bhagavan doesn't mean the one who does mere good action. He is talking a lot more than that.

Want to know more, visit our site: www.vedantavidya.co.nr and post a question.

Thanks.
